Rules


Art. 1
– The first edition of the DANCE ON ! dance competition will take place from November 29th, 2021 and will end with the Award Ceremony on March 4th, 2022.

Dancers and dance school students of all nationalities can participate;

SECTIONS AND CATEGORIES

Art. 2 – The competition is organized into the following sections and categories:

> Classical/Neoclassical section (soloists, duos and groups)
> Modern/Contemporary section (soloists, duos and groups)

Based on the number of participants, the program is subject to variations;

For each section there are the following categories:


Classical/Neoclassical section

1.  C/N Soloists junior cat.

(15 to 17 y.o. – born between 1.01.2005 and 31.12.2007)

2. C/N Soloists senior cat.

(18 y.o. and older – born before 31.12.2004)

3. C/N Soloists professional cat.

(adult professionals who can demonstrate work experience in the last 2 years)

 

 

4. C/N Pas de Deux junior cat.

(15 to 17 y.o. – born between 1.01.2005 and 31.12.2007)

5. C/N Pas de Deux senior cat.

(18 y.o. and older – born before 31.12.2004)

6. C/N Pas de Deux professional cat.

(adult professionals who can demonstrate work experience in the last 2 years)

 

 

7. C/N Groups junior cat.

(15 to 17 y.o. – born between 1.01.2005 and 31.12.2007)

8. C/N Groups senior cat.

(18 y.o. and older – born before 31.12.2004)

Modern/Contemporary section

1. M/C Soloists junior cat.

Exceptions / Out-of-age-range dancers

Art.3 – For the groups categories, dancers that are out of the indicated age range are only allowed as follows.

Out-of-age-range allowed:

  • Up to 5 members: no out-of-age-range allowed
  • from 6 to 11 members: 1(one) out-of-age-range is allowed
  • from 12 members up: a maximum of 2(two) out-of-age-range is allowed

 

APPLICATIONS AND FEES

Art. 4Deadline for application submissions.
Requests must be received by midnight on January 31st, 2022 (GMT +1)

 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Art. 5 – Candidates must send a video that will be evaluated by the jury based on the actual artistic content; the videos will be accepted in any format as long as they can be viewed in streaming (there is no need to download them) and must be visible by the jury without any restrictions and not anonymous (link to Vimeo, Youtube or other platforms is accepted; Wetransfer will not be allowed);

Art. 6Authenticity of the documentation.

The referent/presenting institution is responsible for the authenticity of the documentation provided. Should the Organizing Committee find any untruthfulness or incompleteness, the representatives and their competitors will be excluded from the Competition;

Art. 7 – The participation fees are fixed as follows:

– Classical/Neoclassical and Modern/Contemporary – Soloists junior and senior: €80.00
– Classical/Neoclassical and Modern/Contemporary – Pas de Deux/Duos junior and senior: €100.00
– Classical/Neoclassical and Modern/Contemporary – Groups junior and senior: €80.00 + €20.00 for each member of the group

Art. 8Application limitations.

Each presenting institution can register more soloists or groups even in the same section. Each soloist can present only one program in the same category but can participate in more than one section (e.g. the same soloist can compete in the Classical/Neoclassical section and in the Modern/Contemporary section as long as he/she’s performing different choreographies)

Art. 9Cancellation.

The organization avails itself of the right to cancel a section of the competition or the entire event if there are reasons of force majeure. In such a case, the registration fees will be refunded.


PHASES OF THE COMPETITION

Art. 10 Program

– Application submission – by January 31st, 2022, midnight (GMT +1)
– Winners announcement and Award Ceremony – March 4th, 2022 (time to be defined)

The announcement of the winners and the Award Ceremony will be transmitted live on the competition’s website. The videos of the winners for each category will be broadcast.

Art. 11 – Maximum running times

  • Soloists – junior and senior Classical/Neoclassical: 2,30 min
  • Pas de Deux – junior and senior Classic/Neoclassical: 9 min
  • Groups – junior and senior Classical Neoclassical: 10 min
  • Soloists – junior and senior Modern/Contemporary: 4 min
  • Duos – junior and senior Modern/Contemporary: 7 min
  • Groups – junior and senior Modern/Contemporary: 10 min

In case the duration exceeds the foreseen minutes, the disqualification will be automatic unless the fact has been previously communicated in written form and accepted by the board of directors of the competition;

Art. 12Legitimacy of the choreographies.

Candidates are reminded to verify the legitimacy of the choreographies they intend to submit to the competition in order to avoid exclusion due to the absence of rights. Among all, it is reminded that George Balanchine’s repertoire cannot be presented in competitions;

Classical/Neoclassical section:
a) Soloists Junior: a variation taken from the Classical/Neoclassical repertoire, also simplified
b) Soloists Senior: a variation taken from the Classical/Neoclassical repertoire
c) Pas de Deux: a variation taken from the Classical/Neoclassical repertoire or a free variation
d) GroupsJunior and Senior: a free choreography, even if not unpublished, as long as it is free of performing rights;

 Modern/Contemporary Section
a) A choreography, even if not unpublished, as long as it is free of performing rights;


JURY AND EVALUATIONS

Art. 13 – The Jury is made up of figures of a high artistic profile from the international dance scene, critics, experts in choreographic production and in audiovisuals.

Valentina Marini – Director, Spellbound Contemporary Ballet of Rome (Italy)
Claire Bayliss Nagar – Artistic Director, Israel Ballet (Israel)

Art. 14Judgment of the jury.

The jury’s decision is unappealable.

Art. 15Jury and Transparency.

People who are somehow related to the competitors cannot be part of the jury. Participating with creations signed by a member of the jury is also incompatible.


RESULTS AND AWARDS

Art. 16Awards.

Awards consist in cash prizes, diplomas, scholarships, and eventual internship opportunities (by the members of the jury).

  1. C/N Junior Soloists category – 1st place: 200€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  2. C/N Senior Soloists category – 1st place: 300€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  3. C/N Professional Soloists category – 1st place: 400€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma 
  1. C/N Junior Pas de Deux category – 1st place: 200€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  2. C/N Senior Pas de Deux category – 1st place: 300€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  3. C/N Professional Pas de Deux category – 1st place: 400€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma 
  1. C/N Junior Groups category – 1st place: 200€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  2. C/N Senior Groups category – 1st place: 300€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  3. C/N Professional Groups category – 1st place: 400€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma

Modern/Contemporary section

  1. M/C Junior Soloists category – 1st place: 200€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  2. M/C Senior Soloists category – 1st place: 300€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  3. M/C Professional Soloists category – 1st place: 400€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  1. M/C Junior Duos category – 1st place: 200€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  2. M/C Senior Duos category – 1st place: 300€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  3. M/C Professional Duos category – 1st place: 400€; 2nd and 3rd  place: diploma 
  1. M/C Junior Groups category – 1st place: 200€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma
  2. M/C Senior Groups category – 1st place: 300€; 2nd and 3rd place: diploma

SPECIAL PRIZE from the JURY (across all categories) – €2,000

The SPECIAL AUDIENCE AWARD, in the form of a diploma of merit, will be awarded to the artist or group with the most votes on the site and on social networks.

 

MISC and FINAL PROVISIONS

Art. 17 – The Organizing Committee is authorized to acquire and use (unless communicated in advance with a written dissent) the personal data released by each participant for promotional, information and statistical purposes in accordance with the regulations in force;

Art. 18 – For any legal dispute the competent forum is Genova’s.
